As an executive coach, I've often met clients who want immediate career success. While ambition is admirable, it’s essential to remember that true success isn’t an overnight journey. I’ve seen time and time again that the key to achieving your goals lies in aligning short-term wins with long-term vision. Here’s my advice: Embrace the process. Focus on building meaningful relationships, cultivating leadership presence, and making strategic decisions that move you closer to your ultimate vision. Trust me, the journey will be just as rewarding as the result when you stay true to your values

Help them identify opportunities for quick wins, like networking or upskilling, while also emphasizing the importance of continuous learning. Ask, "What are you doing today that will contribute to your long-term career growth?" Celebrate small milestones to keep them motivated and guide them to stay adaptable, reminding them that the path to success often involves overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities along the way.

I always advise those whom I counsel success is always a long term goal , everything good thing takes times. It’s important not to lose focus especially when rejection occurs. Sometimes a pause in success is the best thing that could happen as you need to re strategise and revaluate your approach to the term success and maybe change the path. Also I advise especially students especially what really is your definition of success as I believe if it’s a lot of money and the rest of your life in tatters “Is it really success”

Start by managing your client's expectations, emphasizing that lasting success is a journey, not a quick fix. Encourage them to identify their long-term vision by asking, "What does success look like to you in 5 or 10 years?" Break this vision into smaller, actionable steps, helping them set realistic short-term goals. Introduce them to mentors or industry experts who can offer guidance and insights. Encourage them to build resilience and adaptability, reminding them that setbacks are part of the process. Regularly review their progress together, asking, "What have you learned from your recent experiences?" This approach keeps them focused, motivated, and aligned with their path to sustainable career success.

There is no such thing as overnight career success. Career success depends on a lot of things, one of which is trust. Trust - as we all know - takes time. It's helpful to consider your short and long term goals, and to make a 90 day plan. But in the end it's about your everyday actions, how you interact with others, how you are helpful to others that will stick in other people's memories and will brand you as 'successful', a good person to have around, someone to be put forward.
