As my experience shows, the relationship with the client is sometimes not easy. Especially when the client does not agree with the best design practices. In these situations, you need to think like an entrepreneur, you need to make it clear to the client that the best design practices are proven solutions that can become the basis for future product development and sometimes it is important "Don't reinvent the wheel".

When my client wants to go against design best practices: 1.Understand their reasons: Ask why they prefer this approach. 2.Explain consequences: Share the risks of ignoring best practices. 3.Provide data: Use evidence to show the benefits of following best practices. 4.Offer compromises: Suggest testing their idea with prototypes or A/B tests. 5.Collaborate: Frame it as a team effort to reach the best solution. 6.Document concerns: Keep a record of your advice if they insist on their approach.

As a UI/UX Designer, navigating a situation where a client wants to go against design best practices requires a collaborative approach. First, I would listen to understand their reasoning, ensuring you respect their vision. Then, present evidence-based insights—like user research, usability testing, or industry standards—that demonstrate the value of best practices. Offer alternative solutions that meet their objectives while maintaining user-centered design. If they remain firm, suggest testing both their approach and the recommended design, using A/B testing or user feedback to inform the final decision. This fosters a collaborative environment while prioritizing the user experience.

Agreed. We need to definitely try all the recommended strategies. But then not all battles can be won. Sometimes time and budget constraints win… and all alternative recommendations, datapoints and are disregarded..!! ?? I am sure as designers all of us in our career have had to compromise on our design solutions due to technical challenges (dev team competency ), development timelines and budgets.

I’d begin by explaining the long-term impact of ignoring design best practices, showing how it can negatively affect user experience, performance, or brand perception. Education is key to aligning with the client’s goals.
