You don't want to ruin the relationship, but you also need to get paid for your work. Here are some tips on how to handle this delicate situation without losing your cool or your client.

1 Communicate clearly

The first step is to communicate clearly and politely with your client about the payment issue. Don't assume they are intentionally avoiding you or trying to scam you. Maybe they forgot, had a cash flow problem, or faced an unexpected emergency. Send them a friendly reminder email or call them to ask about the status of the payment. Explain the terms of your contract, the value of your work, and the consequences of late payment. Be firm but respectful, and give them a reasonable deadline to pay you.

Be direct with your client and remind them of any due payments. Suggest sending them a development build as soon as they pay the determined price. Do not be too pushy about it and understand that clients may sometimes have legitimate reasons why they wouldn't be able to pay you instantly. Balance patience and understanding with self-respect and care for your own well-being.

2 Offer solutions

If your client still doesn't pay you by the deadline, you can offer them some solutions to ease the burden. For example, you can suggest a payment plan, a partial payment, or a discount for early payment. You can also ask them if they have any issues with your work or the invoice, and try to resolve them as soon as possible. Be flexible and understanding, but don't compromise too much on your rates or quality.

Suggest partial payment in advance and prove your developed progress by sending them demonstrative materials. Feel free to express any doubts and find a mutual agreement before taking any serious steps towards the service. If client has confidence in you, they will listen with open ears and try to satisfy your end of the bargain as well.

3 Escalate the matter

If your client still refuses to pay you or ignores your communication, you may need to escalate the matter to a higher authority. Depending on the size and nature of the project, you can contact their manager, their accounting department, or their legal team. You can also send them a formal demand letter, a notice of intent to sue, or a cease and desist letter. You can also hire a collection agency, a lawyer, or a mediator to help you recover your money. However, these options may cost you more time and money, and damage your reputation, so use them as a last resort.

If they refuse to discuss payment in serious manner do not start any work and if you determine the client may be fraudalent, proceed to another as there will always be better offers out there.

4 Protect your work

Another way to deal with non-paying clients is to protect your work from being used without your permission. You can do this by watermarking your 3D models, using low-resolution files, or withholding the final deliverables until you receive the payment. You can also use a contract that grants you the copyright or ownership of your work until you are paid in full. You can also register your work with a copyright office or a digital rights management service.

Esto no es ningun secreto, aun asi se utiliza poco. Aparte de cobrar adelanto de pago que cubra el costo minimo, en cuanto al trabajo se pueden usar marcas de agua (no necesariamente gigantes), resolucion de imagen no final (especificar que la version final se entrega una vez completado el pago) y hasta proteger los archivos con contrase?a (esto puede ser un poco extremo). Todas estas alternativas son gratis, previas a entrar en un registro de autoria.
