Establishing trust can take time. Providing them genuine support, being able to listen to them actively and using skills like reflection and validation can be the first steps in helping them understand themselves better. With some clients, trust can be established sooner than others, while it might take a Lil while with others. It's important to be empathetic throughout.

Establishing safety with your client is paramount. Trauma really impacts people's sense of safety and may struggle to feel safe in relationships. Creating safety takes time, authenticity, and commitment. There is no universal approach to establish safety, but having genuine empathy and follow through go a long way. Sometimes people have to relearn to trust because of their past experiences.
