How have you successfully re-engaged a client in the trust-building process?
-
I agree that highlighting the value of trust is key. I've found that using personal anecdotes about my own experiences building trust with clients can be particularly effective. It makes the process feel less abstract and more relatable.
-
Being honest with them and creating space for them to see the value of building trust. I do that through sharing my personal story. In addition to trust-building activities, create opportunities for team members to share their own experiences where trust made a difference in their work. This personalizes the process and helps individuals see the direct impact of trust on success. Encourage open dialogue, where everyone feels safe to express their challenges and achievements, fostering a deeper sense of connection. Offering regular feedback and showing genuine interest in their growth further strengthens trust. When people feel seen and valued, trust naturally follows, leading to higher engagement and stronger results.

Here's a few steps to help reignite my client in building trust. 1) Find out what my client's view on trust is. Describe a trusted-relationship in the past or present. Describe an experience that trust has been broken or damaged. 2) Ask client to list out the benefits that they had observed or experienced where trust exists in their company or in other companies. Then, ask client to imagine what a trusted-relationship could look like and how it could benefit their team's performance. 3) Brainstorm ideas of trust-building activities that client would be willing to participate. 4) Continuously reflect and feedback when carrying out the activities will help client to learn the value and change their perspective on trust.
-
Tap into the client's Intrinsic motivation. 1. Have an open conversation around what they truly want to achieve. What gives them joy? What have they enjoyed most in the past & do today? I found my love for coaching with this approach. 2. Once you understand that, link their goals to how trust is a foundational element to succeed in those areas. 3. Help your client co-create mutually beneficial goals/approaches with key stakeholders (focus on specific needs & context), set small, achievable targets to increase their confidence & willingness to engage. 4. Encourage a forward looking approach. It is good to learn from past mistakes but don't let them stay there, to maintaining a positive & constructive mindset. 5. Recognise their effort.
-
First we need to deep dive into the reasons why they have trust issues. Then slowly we can get them into the right path of making them understand the values & importance of trust. It could be done either through realistic examples or we can suggest them for some workshops initially to understand the value of trust. Once that is done, then coaching them would become easier.
