Self-doubt is simply a sign that we’ve taken on someone else’s perception of us, and we haven’t yet realized it. It usually comes from someone else—someone who told us, either directly or indirectly that we couldn’t trust ourselves. So the question isn’t, “How do we fix self-doubt?” It’s, “Whose doubt is this, really?” When you guide someone through that process, it’s about helping them see that the doubt they feel might not even be theirs to begin with. In that way, mindfulness becomes less about managing the doubt and more about helping them see themselves as they truly are, without the layers of other people’s voices clouding their vision. Then, it's simple. You don’t need a technique to get rid of it—you just let it go.

Mindfulness techniques have been a game-changer in my coaching practice, especially for clients struggling with self-doubt. I once worked with an IT professional who constantly questioned their worth despite their achievements. To help them, I introduced simple mindfulness techniques like daily meditation and mindful breathing exercises. Initially, it was just five minutes of silence and breathing, but it created space for clarity. Over time, they began using affirmations to combat negative thoughts. The result? They showed up more confidently in interviews, and their work performance improved. Mindfulness isn’t just about calm—it's about reclaiming power over your mind.

As a certified coach, I integrate mindfulness techniques to support clients battling self-doubt. Encouraging daily meditation helps them center and observe their thoughts without judgment, while mindful breathing exercises calm the nervous system and refocus energy during challenging moments. Using affirmations, we shift their inner dialogue toward self-compassion. I also recommend recording small wins of the day, which helps build confidence and reinforce positive progress. These practices, when done consistently, foster self-assurance and reduce anxiety, empowering clients to overcome doubt.

Helping clients overcome self-doubt involves affirming their values and understanding their unique perspectives on the situation. By focusing on coaching the person rather than the problem, we can uncover thoughts and assumptions that may be masked by emotions struggling to surface. Carefully observing the thoughts that lead clients down the path of self-doubt allows us to identify and label the saboteurs that undermine their confidence.
-
Fostering Self-Awareness: Mindfulness encourages clients to become more aware of their thoughts and feelings. This heightened self-awareness allows them to identify patterns of self-doubt and recognize triggers, enabling more effective strategies for managing these feelings.
