Your boss isn't letting you work on a project you're qualified for. How can you prove your worth?

To raise your hand and speak up clearly about what you want to achieve is important but, more important than this, is to be realistic about how capable and skilled we are to develop the activities and get the goals we are supposed to in the project (As proverb says "To dream is for free, to make it real isn't"

Honestly, real leaders don't wait until you come to ask them what can be improved on yourself. They give continuous feedback to their team members to ensure that all are walking through the right path for the project's success. But apart from your leaders, it is also important to ask your colleagues and even to pay attention to what they don't like about other team members so that we can become no only a team player, but a real team mate

This is correct! It's not only about helping them to finish their tasks or supporting them when they're in need, but it's also giving them advice on how to improve their work and performance, always with respect and good manners so, they won't feel underappreciated or criticized, but encouraged to give their best for their own success and the project's success as well

You can't ask for an opportunity if you're not ready to bear the responsibilities that come with it. And it's not only about admitting mistakes and doing nothing. We have to do our best to minimize the impact of our errors and, be willing to share our experience with other team members, so that they don't commit the same mistakes

It's good to keep track of your achievements but it is still best to demonstrate that your actions, skills, knowledge & experience support what is written on paper. Also, it's essential to be patient and learn to identify when is the proper moment to raise your hand and set the focusing on you

Something to remember is that not everyone is open to instant change. Make sure to put yourself in the shoes of your boss and try to understand from their perspective what’s stopping them from getting you on a task that YOU THINK you are qualified for. It’s very often that people think they are qualified for something, but in hindsight are not able to see the backfires/obstacles that could hinder the motive of the task.

I don’t wish to sound negative, but this article and the two additional comments rely upon the assumption that the boss will be receptive to such approaches. Unfortunately, in many companies, there still exist ‘toxic’ bosses who have an agenda which does not include the advancement of their direct reports. It is never a good idea to give people of limited intellect or imagination the ability to say ‘no’.

The answer to getting noticed for a new project is always to start by discussing your ambitions with your boss. Don't assume anything, always ask and from that you can start to understand what your boss is thinking like/their priorities. Especially avoid AI generated articles that are full of grey and random 'tips' on how to make progress. AI is your silent enemy, don't trust anything it suggests. 'People buy from people first, then they buy in to the Company and finally they buy the product or service once the other two are deemed safe'.

Some bosses are indeed tempted to be reluctant to promote their collaborators or allow them to handle more responsibilities, it can be out of fear of "losing control", because they think eventually you will "overpass them", or simply because they haven't paid enough attention to your performance. So, some good advice to keep in mind whenever you ask for an opportunity are: 1) Get ready for the best, wait for the worst, and accept what comes. 2) If you don't speak up, no one will listen to you. 3) You already have the "no", but a "yes" can happen at any moment. 4) Don't get disappointed if you don't get what you expected, remember that even from "falls" & "failures" you get a lesson.
