Your boss is closed to new ideas. How can you convince them to try something different?

Any proposal without a business case may not get attention. 1. Submit your proposal/idea with details such as cost-benefit analysis, timeline, steps to implement etc. 2. Before committing to the full scale have a pilot run to prove the results. 3. Create a short-term and long-term plan for implementation. 4. Showcase possible outcomes with numbers. 5. Speak with data and figures to support. 6. Try to appreciate the manager's reservations as well. He/she might have some insights that you don't have. 7. Try to understand your managers' views and try to address the same in your solution. 8. Share similar examples from industry/competition etc. 9. Try to get him to arrive at the same solution through some process and you have won him.

Always start with the wide understanding of the whole picture, why he thinks that. After understanding all the sides of the decision, you may be able to see how best you idea fits. Always try to follow the wider strategy of the team. Get your chance to explain how your idea fulfils the same benefits or even can provide more, and why we should follow it. Then, invite everyone to the discussion about it to make sure it is best plan for the whole team on the project.

En mi opinión en estos casos, lo mas importante es escuchar sus razones, entender el porque de su razonamiento. Una vez hecho esto, hay que comunicarle de la manera mas efectiva posible (cada perfil tiene una forma diferente a la que comunicarse de manera efectiva, la metodología DISC ayudar mucho en este aspecto) se?alando donde y porque se falla, los puntos posibles de mejora, y presentando un plan con los pasos y las fecha de la mejora. Lo ideal es que este plan venga acompa?ado de metricas de mejora, produciremos un X% mas o haremos X% menos fallos. Aunque la manera mas efectiva es mostrar estas metricas en €. Con estas mejora ganaremos tantos € o nos ahorraremos tanto dinero.

Two of the very critical activities we recommend lean/six sigma leaders to complete, as a part of new project definition phase is ‘Stakeholder analysis’ and ‘Communication plan’. One needs to understand where each and every key stakeholder stands, when it comes to the idea/change that is being proposed. The ideas should be appropriate to the short term and long term business plans... This helps tohe seniors to give a listening year yo the new ideas..
