When scope changes arise, I keep the team on track by first revisiting project goals and re-establishing priorities to focus on critical deliverables. Maintaining open communication with stakeholders is key to aligning expectations and managing the impact. Embracing Agile's flexibility allows us to adapt while protecting core objectives.

When an agile team is split on a change in project scope, it's important to bring everyone together to discuss the reasons behind the change and how it affects the overall goals. Setting up a meeting can help clarify everyone’s concerns and ideas. The team should focus on what’s best for the project and the customer, looking at priorities and timelines. If needed, involving a product owner or a stakeholder can help make a final decision. This way, the team can agree on a path forward and keep the project moving smoothly.

Agile emphasizes responding to change over following a fixed plan. Scope changes are a natural part of the process, but they should always be evaluated based on their impact and value to the project. The key question is: 'Does this change improve the outcome or deliver more value to the customer?' If the answer is yes, the team should collaborate to incorporate it effectively. By staying focused on delivering customer value, scope changes become an opportunity for improvement rather than a disruption to the project’s progress.
-
I call an immediate team meeting to openly discuss the scope changes, ensuring all perspectives are heard and understood. I then guide the team through a prioritization exercise, using techniques like MoSCoW or story mapping to reach a consensus on which changes are essential and which can be deferred or eliminated. Finally, I work with the team to adjust our sprint plans and backlog, ensuring our most critical deliverables remain on track while accommodating necessary scope changes, and communicate these decisions clearly to stakeholders to maintain alignment and support.

Agile loves collaboration and face-to-face meetings, so whenever there is a conflict regarding scope changes it is better to meet up to set priorities right, with the help of the Product Owner, they together can set priorities on conflicting scope changes, and determine what the team can work on forward
