Something like game-of-life or lights-out or something like that. That will force you to setup a developer env and get a basic build. Finally, find the most popular OSS project that uses this language and review their code. Ideally see if you can contribute in some way and get a review.

Make sure you have some nice music in the background while studying, otherwise it can be boring. If you watch videos for studying, you should of course make sure the volume of the music is not too loud or maybe skip on the music.

I ussually find an excuse to learn in, prefereable a small application I can itterate through fast. This keeps it a fun and engaging process. In parallel look at other code, try to decern their descisions and build up. Tutorials etc are ok but sometimes other people code provides insights into pracitcal side of development that books and articles often omit or insufficiently address.
