1 Know your goals

Before you approach your boss, you need to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve with your CSR initiative. What are the specific objectives, outcomes, and impacts of your project? How does it align with your company's mission, values, and strategy? How will it enhance your brand reputation, customer loyalty, and employee engagement? Having a well-defined and measurable goal will help you communicate the value and relevance of your CSR initiative to your boss.

Es un enfoque erróneo el pensar que hay que convencer a la alta dirección para llevar a cabo acciones de RSC. El principal ingrediente de una empresa verdaderamente comprometida es que primero existe una verdadera convicción por parte de la alta dirección para ir más allá del beneficio empresarial y tener un impacto mayor en la vida de las personas y en la sociedad. De lo contrario, cualquier acción, cambio o transformación de RSC que la empresa implemente estará cimentado sobre una base muy poco sólida... y es cuestión de tiempo que se derrumbe.

I will take the case where you are an intrapreneur, and believe your company needs to implement a CSR strategy. To me, you need to tell a good story, and a good story always start with Why. Before knowing your goals, know your whys: why are you doing this, what motivates you, what inside you pushed you to wanting to implement a CSR initiative? After understanding your whys, draft the objectives: what are you looking to achieve, who is it going to impact, and how it will positively impact the bottom line. By being able to tell the story of an initiative that does good for your company and generates revenue (or mitigate the losses), you'll be able to lay down an introduction to your hierarchy on your CSR initiative.

Three points to consider when researching a new CSR initiative: 1. Add value - CSR Teams can be unfairly viewed as a financial burden upon the business. How could your initiative help increase revenue and/or decrease cost? Find academic or industry reports to support your position. 2. Competitor analysis - Research what your competitors are doing. Could your company be the first to adopt the idea? Does your company need to keep pace with rivals? 3. Align with company purpose and values - Consider how your initiative could tangibly embody your company's purpose and values to attract and retain talent, as well as collaborate with like-minded clients.

What people should never forget on this is you need to ; 1. Find your champions - passionate people not like warm including C suite please. 2. Grow your champions - grow network of like minds 3. Enable your champions ( training, education , digital, budgets etc. )

You don't have to pitch your idea alone. You can enlist the support and collaboration of other stakeholders who can help you make your case. Who are the people who can benefit from or contribute to your CSR initiative? They can be your colleagues, managers, customers, suppliers, or community partners. How can you involve them in the planning and execution of your project? How can you showcase their feedback and testimonials? Finding your allies will help you demonstrate the demand and support for your CSR initiative.

4 Prepare your pitch

Once you have your goals, research, and allies ready, you can prepare your pitch to your boss. You want to make it concise, compelling, and customized. How can you tailor your message to your boss's preferences, priorities, and pain points? How can you use storytelling, visuals, and emotions to capture their attention and interest? How can you address their needs, expectations, and objections? How can you propose a clear action plan and timeline for your project?
