Esta posición de por si te dara visibilidad y los logros hablaran por si mismo de tu capacidad y potencialidad. No se trata de hacer lo minimamente indispensable, se trata de hacer lo que genere una ventaja competitiva. En mi experiencia siempre he pensado que las acciones y actitudes son más contundentes que las palabras, un profesional que demuestra en hechos lo que sabe no requerira de estrategias para hacerse visible, los reflectores lo buscaran siempre y se volverá referente.

Even when you work hard and do routine things better you won't be noticed. Take new initiatives which benefit the process as well as the organisation. Do things differently and proactively.

In my experience there doesn't always need to be a formalized plan for someone to move up within an organization. In fact, I think by putting together a plan that has very specific goals with time stamps, you run the risk of becoming nearsighted and missing opportunities that could really have been good for you.

If you want to get ahead at work, develop a plan regarding what role you would like to be considered for and what are the skills & experiences needed to land that promotion. Ask to work on cross-functional projects to gain new skill sets. Identify how you can contribute to your department and organizational goals. Ask for coaching so your efforts are targeted based on where you are in your professional growth journey.

If you need your leader to see your potential, make changes on your individual performance. Observe areas or processes that require improvement. For example, when I worked in corporate, sales reps would send in their expenses using a hard copy form to HR for payment. This obviously took time for HR to process and then send payment to the sales reps. At the time, I knew the director in finance, saw the opportunity and suggest whether a formula could be applied/shared through the network where a sales person could send a digital excel form reducing the processing time for HR. I created a template, while he applied the formulas, then we worked together with a contact in admin. The sheet was tested and later accepted internationally.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, educators across the nation needed to immediately develop new technological skills in the areas of online education as students migrated away from a traditional face-to-face classroom setting to new forms of online education with their students. During this time, it was very helpful to me to improve my technical skills in online education by completing different online education training. My process of learning new skills in this area of educational technology was assisted when I gave professional presentations or participated as a speaker in a webinar on my online learning with other teaching professionals. This skill development helped me showcase my educational technology achievements with my superiors.

Embracing change is definitely the way to go. Failure to adapt is failure to deliver. However, change shouldn’t be sought just because it is fashionable. Surely, predictions can and should be made and in most cases change is inevitable and it makes itself visible. Some employees fail to see what is coming and add to the natural resistance to change, though. Bearing this in mind, every employee should key both eyes open to what is new and stay updated as to how to adapt their services to meet new demands. The agility, proactiveness and preparedness for this situation will make any employee noticeable. Success in such endeavor is, however, part of teamwork so all members should work together, which is a skill that can never be underrated.

Helping to lead change initiatives by staying positive about the benefits of new EdTech will lead to you getting noticed by managers and colleagues. Change is hard for most of the population, but leading EdTech initiatives helps you see the upside of new innovation positioning you to guide and assist others.

I have been fortunate to work for diverse supervisors that I’ve learned from and I even modeled my leadership style from those experiences. Many from whom I learned more of what not to do rather than what to do. It is true that how you treat others is exactly how others will treat you. My recommendation is simple. Focus on promoting others and you will be promoted. There are many “abilities” that one can give them selves, because they can be learned. However, there is one “ability” that must be given to you, CREDIBILITY. Credibility must be earned and that usually comes from time, consistency and attitude. If you focus more on empowering and facilitating the growth of others, by design you will also grow. A rising tide lifts all boats!

Show you’re willing to take on leadership roles when possible. For example; Before going to a supervisor with a problem, take some time to consider how you would handle it. After you can answer that question, approach your supervisor and say “We have a problem but I think I have a solution.” This will let them know you’re willing to be proactive.

You can't make your boss see your potential - but I would encourage you to boost your own potential. With your CIMA Qualification (Yes ~ I'm biased because I'm qualified) but your career is not about your boss - it's about you! Then shout about it and your progress and your strengths. Once you are qualified - go and jump UP in your finance career and enjoy the rewards and opportunities this qualification brings you!

Being solutions-focused is key here. Managers are looking for employees who can identify a challenge or problem and create a solution before coming to them. This doesn’t give you free reign to solve everyone’s problem outside the scope of your daily work, but identifying opportunities to support your colleagues or use your unique skill set to support an organization-wide effort will help you get noticed. Remember though that recognition is not the goal, it’s supporting the organization and learners that should be your priority. Self promotion merely for selfish reasons does not demonstrate leadership characteristics. Changing the question to ‘how can I help solve problems?’ and remaining solutions-focused will take you far in your career.
