You have to train remote employees on new technology. What's the best way to do it?

In training remote employees, it is important to understand the technology yourself first. Typically, I would first send any training materials to the employee so they could review and start making a list of questions, and if possible, assign a read only access to them, so they can view the technology. I would ask the employee to send me any questions they may have prior to the actual training session. Once training day arrived, let the employee know their questions will be answered during the training at the appropriate time. Training should be done via a medium where screens can be shared, share an agenda of the training. Make sure they know they can ask questions at any time. Use real life examples of what they will see.

Identify what the goal is first then determine what is the best method of training that is required to met that training goal and what additional materials your training program would need. Microsoft Teams and Zoom accommodate large audiences and offer screen sharing and allow group discussions during presentations. Training and testing materials can be provided utilizing Moodle. So discuss WHY training is important to your organization and explain how it serves the greater good of all. Create a training for each user role and a quick survey up front to help users identify what role they should be. Once you have this, you can easily put together a course that explains the functions that each role can do, then implement a method for users to practice. I'd recommend a test environment so that it's real, but won't effect production. When a user needs to upgrade roles, then they can be assigned the new role training to complete before being elevated in role.

Then plan with managers in remote area for planning and budgeting resources (hunan, logistics, materials, money,ect) to conduct the training.

One thing I’ve found helpful is to use screen sharing to show them how to manage a program and then let them show you how. While they are showing you “how” allow them to give feedback on possible easier ways to do the same task, this gets the buy-in quick and raises confidence in the program being taught.

I would take it from the customer/employee experience. Analyze the whole employee journey, define which are the moments that could be crucial for the training and design the whole experience pre-during-after training.

Every one needs to buy into the "Why" of implementation of a new system and "What" it can do for the employee, the company and the customers and " How" it can impact. Once the team has bought into this its easier to engage them and have their commitment to learning the new technology .

Understanding if there are similar tools that the costumer/employee already uses is always a plus! This understanding could be connected to the new material. This is great for relatable concepts and opens the door to overall training engagement.
