For example, can we get meaningful insight from a scatter plot of 1 million data points? or a graph with 10,000 nodes and 1 millon connections? Most of the cases, we transform large scale metrices (raw or processed data) into smaller metrices that could be used for visualization but that brings hidden assumptions/hypothesis that we ignore many times.

I like Matlab for this sort of work. Good plotting and math support. Obviously it is hard to come up with a genetic formula for this sort of thing and the AI article comes up with the same 7 steps for all algorithm development. Not that it is wrong.
