You do need to share your expectations as well so both can work on the same path by understanding each other expectations. You have to provide proper guidance by spending some time on regular basis to check if they are going in the correct direction towards fulfilling the expectations. Feel them you are there for any support they need and they will be motivated for the task.

I wouldn’t try sandwich method, because more obvious you may low the employee. - As many professionals said many important inputs, I would add a point that : -Convey what is happening now and when?(neutral) - how it’s impacting currently with team? Your point of view(positive or negative) depends on type of feedback - let the junior conveys his point of view (two way communication) — derive the points to follow up, don’t try to impose your things on junior. ??Last but not least, if senior have a mindset, that we always have room of learning even it’s from juniors, because young minds do things very differently, it could be learning as well
