I love when teachers collaborate with another and it’s important to provide the space for that to happen. It fosters a sense of community and relatability amongst them. They already have a lot to manage on their own. When these moments aren’t easy to come by I offer 1:1 open door coaching hours to support teachers with classroom management, lesson delivery, and stress management.

In my NLP training we discuss different strategies to observe student behavior which helps with the growth mindset of teachers. It challenges them to separate the association with students behavior to properly handle situations. In our 1:1 time we get to assess their growth and come up with new game plans. They don’t feel so overloaded or unsupported.

As a mentor, we picked a topic we were not an expert in and delved into the topic together. We choose to learn more about the science of reading. We read research articles and developed a framework to reflect our new initiatives. Since it was new to both of us, we developed ways to assess the students more frequently to ensure that our methods worked and the students were learning to read. When you are both learning together, you are modeling a growth mindset, how to evaluate your teaching, and discussing progress together. It is a true partnership. My mentee became my mentor when we were learning new technology. She was able to teach me time-saving shortcuts. When we are vulnerable, we can all learn new skills.
