To put it simply, a product design strategy covers everything we've got to think about to make our product work. It's not just about the user – it's also about figuring out what problems we're solving, what solutions we've got in our toolbox, and what goals we're aiming for. The strategy is the key component; it determines whether our efforts will be sustainable in the long run. So, my advice is to dig deep and explore all the potential scenarios related to our product.

Product design strategy is like building a fun and exciting playground for people to enjoy. We start by asking, "What kind of games do they like to play?" That's understanding the users. Then, we think about what equipment to put in the playground - swings, slides, and more. That's designing the product. Finally, we make sure everything is safe and easy to use, just like holding a grown-up's hand while playing. That's our strategy, making things people love in a safe and fun way!

PDS is an integral part of Product Strategy that focuses on the design and user experience aspects of a product. It plays a crucial role in aligning the product with user needs, market insights, strategic goals, and technical constraints. For a product to succeed, both PDS and the broader PS must work in tandem to create a cohesive and effective product development process.

It's combines design thinking (an approach oriented on designing products that solve users' problems) with business objectives and values.

What happens when you don't have a clear product strategy? Your company will be motivated by short term thinking and outcomes that can ultimately hurt your product in the long run. Your product experience will become disjointed and attempt to solve multiple problems poorly. Without a clear product strategy, your product will fall apart.

Having a product design strategy ensures that there's a clear differentiation in the market, helping the product stand out amidst competitors. It also ensures that the design decisions made are sustainable and scalable in the long run, adapting to market shifts and user evolution. Furthermore, it aids in setting clear benchmarks and performance indicators, helping in efficient resource allocation. Product Design is s long-term journey, Product design strategy will assist on multiple fronts especially when thinking in micro-view (Task thinking) and Macro-view (System thinking) with the help of strategy you will be able to take informed decisions that align with goals.

Starting with your product vision is essential... But how do you create a product vision? It really starts with research and understanding your users. You need a deep understanding of your user's pain points, their journey, and the role your product plays in that journey. Don't attempt to make a product strategy until you have a product vision. That vision comes from a solid understanding of what your user's needs.

For a strategy to work it needs to cover not only the user but all the stakeholders, as sometimes people mistaken user as end user only, plus the business need for the product so the vision must reflect the need of both and then from there you can continue to goals and at last to a plan

Start by answering 2 questions: 1. What do users need? 2. Make makes the company’s POV special? Then craft the story, the design system and the experience around the product. This will inform the product roadmap, features and benefits.

The first thing you should do is determine if you're willing to invest the necessary time. A strategy isn't a simple matter; it's a complex process that takes a lot of time. Especially when it's related to a digital product, as there's substantial competition in the field. But remember, something will always stand out from the rest, so don't worry. Analyze the market, identify the problems people are facing, and consider where your product fits in and why it should exist. Start by getting organized, then plan, adapt, and proceed step by step. You'll learn the rest along the way. There's no magic formula for a strategy to work, but the more you respect each step, the better your chances of success.
