1 Check your current RAM

Before you buy new RAM modules, you need to check how much RAM your computer already has, what type and speed it supports, and how many slots are available for expansion. You can find this information by using the built-in system tools or a third-party software like CPU-Z. You can also check the user manual or the manufacturer's website for your computer model. Make sure you note down the RAM capacity, type (such as DDR3 or DDR4), speed (in MHz), and form factor (such as DIMM or SODIMM).

First, check the motherboard specifications, to see how much ram the motherboard can support. Some support up to 64gb, most support 128gb higher end ones support more. See the number of slots on your motherboard. Some have two, others have four. Workstation motherboards - motherboards for AMD threadrippers and Intel Xeon series support 8 sticks. Then check the max frequency of ram motherboard can support. Shown in specifications sheet. Most Support 2666-4000 MHZ though from 3200-4000MHZ onwards XMP needs to be activated. Finally check which type of ram is supported - DDR4 or DDR5, both have different slots.
