What unique opportunities does a product design career offer?

Ando inconformado diante de tantos clichês sobre design e inova??o, promessas de ferramentas e técnicas de prosperidade e sucesso, que na maioria das vezes só prejudicam a sua empresa e o desenvolvimento da inteligência humana. Deveríamos capacitar urgentemente os seres humanos, potencializar suas virtudes para que possam utilizar da melhor maneira essas ferramentas.

The potential of Industrial design to make an impact has still not been exploited fully. In my experience, if the Industrial design team is trained and engaged in the entire process of creation to engineering to the final consumer, we will see many more wonderful products, services, and even government related activities (especially in India)

Industrial design has evolved so much since the time of Bauhaus and High School for Design, Ulm. Today industrial designers work with diverse industries ranging from those making surgical robots to NGO’s making Bamboo products. And everything in between .. the spectrum of work has fanned out and percolates to new areas constantly. An industrial designer is a need of every company these days… to the point where they cannot work without one anymore.

I was captivated from an early age by the idea that as a product designer you can add immense esthetic value to just about anything around you. That simple notion continues to fuel my passion to this day. It's like having a constant lens through which to view the world around you. Every object, every space or experience warrants careful consideration and has the potential for a fresh and innovative design approach. When you chose a career in product design it's endlessly exciting because you're in a field that requires you to look at the familiar with a new light. It sparks your creativity and fuels your drive to make the world a more beautiful place.

As a graduate in the late 1980's despite all of our class landing into a dreadful economic time in Ireland many of our class from NCAD and UL or NIHE as it was called ended up at the forefront of computer graphics, designers or managers in industry, crystal companies, interiors, architecture and even modelmaking for film or as individual designer makers . A product design training gave us flexibility to think on our feet and solve technical problems but also business issues.

Cuando le cuento a la gente en qué consiste mi trabajo, puedo percibir que normalmente les parece muy interesante poder trabajar en algo relacionado con lo estético, y lo creativo. Resolver problemas o necesidades utilizando la creatividad, planteando ideas nuevas, e incluso haciendo una previsión de las tendencias que van a dominar el mercado es apasionante. Cuando la linea que separa si estás navegando en internet por placer o buscando ideas para tu trabajo, es muy delgada; es por que aquello a lo que te dedicas te llena realmente. Todo esto lo he conseguido, en mi caso estudiando la carrera de dise?o industrial , la cual me ha permitido desarrollarme profesionalmente en el mundo del dise?o, concretamente en el dise?o de superficies.

Product Design is well past its heyday when it was the mascot of consumerism. Now, it is understood entirely as digital application architecture and interaction design. Still, the enormous versatility and learnability of product design education continues to find new and exciting opportunities to shape our interactions with the world of tech. In fact, I recently wrote a new-age curriculum for Communication Design that was inspired by the unique values-set of Product Design: integrating art/craft, science, business and technology.

It is one of only a few careers that: - allows you to earn a salary doing creative work - Has parts of the job that inherently require you to get off of your computer screen, use your hands, and even out into the real world to observe and talk to people - Enables you to have a large positive impact in thousands of people’s lives - Enables you to help in the fight against climate change in a very real, very big way - In many ways it celebrates industry hopping and diversity of perspective as opposed to focused depth seen in most careers - You can very realistically work on your own, especially later in your career

El trabajo en equipo no sólo te llevará más lejos, sino que te permitirá aprender mucho y si lo haces de forma estratégica te ayudará a llegar más rápido a tus objetivos. Así que conecta con otros profesionales, valora el trabajo de otros y comparte tus conocimientos y experiencias. A mi me ha funcionado.

Design work is a team activity and this mandatory characteristic is one of the benefits of designing. Every single brainstorming process is like an ecstasy of creativity if every single member of the team puts the passion required to design a new product or solution. Besides this, during the data acquisition process, designers are in permanent communication with professionals of other disciplines, which is very motivating, specially if you integrate the end user to the designing process, because he can provide a realistic point of view of the need from the other side of the desk.

The most interesting part of being part of a design group is to intreact with smart people that knows more than you on many aspects, and as a whole Team, get to a solution that bring together, the best of them. Of course it's not a straight line just like any creation process, but it's a journey that is rich and that will benefit the final user and the whole life cycle and whole company.

Product Design offers a valuable framework to approach new challenges and problem areas irrespective of function and industry. This adds a positive ‘can do’ approach and an empathetic outlook to everything that the designer encounters. This is one of the strongest takeaways from the discipline.

Design not only makes products aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically better but it also has an impact on society. At a very basic level they touch our lives and make them better. rightly mentioned in introduction, improves quality of life, health and safety of users.when we look at modern well designed hand tools this becomes evident. They are so much better than yesterday and makes work a joy.

Product design have a total complete impact as its core to solve the challenges within the requirements, the technologies available at this moment in time, and will deeply influence on the usage, the way it can be disassembled, repaired. Being part of the design Team is to have a part of the responsability of the impact on users and employees. I always tried to be proud of what is put to life and matching sustainable values that I have.

Career as a designer is a continuous journey through the unknown. This keeps designers continually improve themselves and improve with time … the joy of seeing your product in market had no equal. Passion and talent are driving forces that keep designers going and stay motivated.

Es fundamental ser consciente que en algunos mercados es más complejo que en otros sostener una carrera de dise?ador industrial. Un dise?ador debe estar dispuesto a viajar y cambiar su país de residencia para encontrar las mejores oportunidades. No todos los países generan dise?o de producto en volumen suficiente para lograr sostener una carrera en el tiempo. En esos entornos los dise?adores suelen transformarse en emprendedores. El camino del emprendimiento es una buena opción para los dise?adores. Este camino reduce la cantidad de horas de dise?o que dedicarás a tu trabajo, te exigirá otras habilidades y es además un camino que ofrece mucha independencia.

Define "lucrative"----Living design life on your terms absolutely qualifies. It's not necessarily determined by the bank account--though that will follow. The money never drives the true creative---the passion drives the creative. And it's a wild world walking around with our hearts on our sleeves. Watching a design come to life knowing it's a direct extension of the designer--be it textile, package, web--just wow--what a feeling it conveys!

Esto será como todo. Dependerá mucho de donde ejerzas y en la presión fiscal. Tengo claro que el trabajo que hacen unos está mejor pagado que el que hacen otros, solamente por el lugar, por como le pagan, de por qué lo buscan, de por lo que factura la empresa con tus dise?os..... muchas variables. Incluso, en el mismo sitio, teniendo la mis a forma de cotizar o de contrato, puede cambiar tu rentabilidad porque cambie la forma de los impuestos, porque la empresa venda más con tu trabajo, porque puedas tener royalties.... Habrá dise?adores muy bueno cobrando poco y mediocres cobrando más de lo que generan, como en todas profesiones.

In terms of salary and earnings, nowadays product design could be a rewarding and profitable career, depending of your geographical area and obviously the talent and skills of each designer. Nevertheless, the true reward is the satisfaction of feel creator of something necessary, which pushes you to create your own company as the ultimate goal of that mixture of passion and creativity.

I would like to share my personal story as an example of a success story. Once I finished my mechanical engineering studies, I started working in a small company that manufactured machines for the wood sector, where I began to enjoy designing and supervising the products made. 4 years later, I created my first company, Modumaq, a company specialized in providing automation solutions based on the real needs of clients. The company has been growing thanks to the trust placed by our clients, with projects over the world. 20 years later, the company was acquired by Scio Automation, a world leader in industrial automation that must elevate Modumaq to the next level.

Picture the future of product design as a dynamic space, where technology, diverse perspectives, and emerging trends shape the role of industrial designers. In my view, the real magic unfolds at the crossroads of creativity, collaboration, and cutting-edge advancements. Industrial design, often underestimated, reveals a vast landscape of unique branches, each contributing its own flair to the ever-evolving design realm.

With the ability to adapt, the world becomes your canvas where you paint it in the colour of your solutions and mixed with skill that reinforces it. As a product designer, you soon realise that almost each and every industry needs you and you have so many vast opportunities to explore. A good way to start is by picking one field, mastering it and then diversifying later as you mature further.

Anyone can be a product designer. Apart from design skills, product designer should have a technical skills and engineering skills. Furthermore, being an Artist is a big plus as a product designer.

The excitement of the unknown! Artificial intelligence, Nanotechnology, Materials science and new virtual worlds that will require environments and things to fill up these worlds. The pace of technological advancement is unprecedented and A good designer will position themselves into the role of experts in designing things that nobody considered. Future designers will be tasked with space exploration and habitat development. Underwater robots and aquatic living. Sustainable everything! I’m lucky enough to have designed Cars, products, drones, fashion and graphics. Bottom line is, never stop learning and imagining! Evolution is the key to success. Cook, dance, sing and travel as well. Life’s too short to do only one thing!!!!
