It's all about how a person what to take his career forward like whether is he interested in managerial work or technical work in the career. However the skills mentioned above like communication, leadership, team work, learning are always useful irrespective of department or stage of career. Personally I feel more stress to be given in communication skills as many of times I feel people are unable to communicate the way they feel or want to.

In my experience the number one skill that is missing, is practical skills. Knowing how to use a lathe,mill, hand tools, being able to assemble machinery. The backbone of mechanical engineering. All great engineers know how to build what they design. Second is troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Third is communication skills.

Another factor is ethics. Ethics is what guides me to act responsibly, professionally, and ethically in my work. Ethics is what ensures that I respect the environment, the society, and the people that I serve. Passion and ethics are not only skills but also values.
