Securing a network in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment presents unique challenges due to the diverse range of devices accessing the network. In my thoughts here is some best practices: 1. Establish BYOD policies outlining acceptable use, security protocols, device standards, and data handling practices 2. Implement strong Access Controls and Authentication based on Least Access & Need to know principles 3. Continuous Monitoring and Endpoint Security 4. Implement defense in depth strategy- Eg:- Vlans, Firewalls, restrictions etc 5. Implement strong Security Awareness & Culture

Adopt Zero Trust methodologies to safeguard critical application from risks or threats associated with BYOD devices. It ensures that every device, user and application is treated as untrusted, regardless of their location or network connection. Ability two- to control accesses, three- ability to control the devices with AD and MDM, four - to wipe the data when there is any staff exits the Organization and finally five to - manage the devices remotely.

For me, MDM is the first step in building an organization's security posture. Personally, I use Microsoft Intune to lay a foundation for cyber security, including BYOD. You can't just connect any device to company resources, including personal devices, without any control. And maybe that device already has malware? MDM allows us to keep our devices aligned with company standards in terms of expected configuration and software.
