What techniques can you use to verify construction measurements and dimensions on a landscape project?

Para todo proyecto de ingeniería y/o arquitectura es fundamental tener un plano con dimensiones a escala de lo que se quiere proyectar, este plano debe ser confeccionado de acuerdo a mediciones topográficas realizadas previamente. Las técnicas para verificar las medidas y dimensiones del proyecto van desde utilización de cinta métrica, mediciones con estación total, GNSS RTK, nivel óptico, escáner laser, fotogrametría aérea y terrestre. Las variables de tiempo, costos, seguridad y tipo de proyecto determinaran que técnica es la más adecuada para verificar las medidas y dimensiones y, sin dudas, poder utilizar la combinación de ellas generará información adicional que permitirá tener un mayor conocimiento del entorno actualizado.

I think it is important to know some of diminsions on you own body. Measure the distance between your fingers when you spread them or the distanc efrom thetip of your finger to your wrist until you fin done that is consitantly 6 inches. Measure the lenght of your foot. Measure your pace. the you will always have scale with you . When you see a item or a space you like you can check the diminsion and begin to build an understnding of scale that you can then take into your design work. Over time you will be to quickly see when something is off by the way it looks

A scaled plan, is only as accurate as the tolerances used, and the mathematical closure check on said plan. The application of said plan in the field, is limited to the accuracy of the measurement tool (ie. Tape, laser level, total station etc.). The endeavour to limit misclosure on a construction design, is a process of consistent checks at every level of design and application (ie. CAD, double angle checks in surveying etc.). The legacy data (showing your work) from each step providing the confidence in every project.

Grab a good tape measure and a beer because lasers are hard to use outdoors and 3D Scans aren’t accurate. Get off the computer and get to the project site.

If you are looking to best capture existing conditions, there is no substitute for a digital survey prepared by a licensed land surveyor and provided in CAD format. Start there if at all possible. You can always supplement the survey with field measurements and observations, but do not rely on transposing Google Earth data as the source of your base linework, as the satellite imagery is not necessarily captured directly above your site. Slight angles not readily visible can result in large discrepancies between perceived building and tree locations and reality.

this method would be divided in my opinion into two main ones. the first is organization in a notebook, and the second is with the help of online services. if the first is an old proven method, then the second is developing at a great pace.. and for my work, I have been using online services every day for the past few years, and this is a really fast and better method, but it takes time to set up.. when I don’t have time, I use a notebook

Physical mapping with monument based measurements, combined with and augmented data from GPS mapping. I feel like this is just a data mining scam

developed only 3D models in modern computer programs using photogrammetric and geodetic methods.. I consider it a good illustration or presentation of the project for clients or consumers

Find an existing structure or object shown on the plan, using a tape measure verify the actual dimension vs drawing dimension.

Know your site. Use available resources - measured plans, field survey, photos, regulations, and most importantly, site visits.

The development of a project takes more than one party, and everyone's communication is key for anything. Having the accurate grid laid out and precise scaled drawing is great, but it is only successful if aligned. I have seen various times where construction is done based on wrong drawings or a wrong interpretation. Avoid this by encouraging coordination, on paper and at site. Talk and look at things together; it will save time, produce good projects, and avoid mistakes.
