In my experience before we went forward with any patching we always put a pilot group together. Along those lines, we also put a go/no-go plan. This would let us isolate any issue which we saw and if it was a problem where it would affect business productivity we would no go on it. Otherwise, we would move forward.

The best solution of installing new patches is at first test and verify on labs, after that is most important backup before installing new patches and be sure about after effect, check the risks,if a problem happened we can restore the backup or snapshot.

The backup shall be tested regularly to ensure the data integrity and availability of the backup files. So, we shall refer on our internal procedure on how often we test our backups to make sure they will work after the restoration. If you have thousands of servers then it is not easy to monitor all of the behaviour of your patched systems. Then the incidents help(!) you to monitor the failures. =) DO have WRITTEN rollback procedures which roll back to the last working states of your systems. Be prepared for such failures. Patch management is usually the backbone of cybersecurity. We generally talk about attacks in the mainstream but not enough about reducing the risks by planning. You can not plan for everything sure, but having been in organisation's before that refused to document things clearly, and in organisation's that do, you can clearly feel the difference in pressure when there are issues. Documenting will always be the best future proofing of your infrastructure.

First, you uninstall all the software on the system. Then you celebrate as you are now avoiding all the new vulnerabilities in that uninstalled software. I mean, come on "Powered by AI". Form better questions. Patch installation and vulnerability avoidance are two separate topics.
