One of the main issues that troubles me every time I start on a new project is the unity settings. I tried to make it into a routine and most of the time I get the control, but then it slips and suddenly I m modeling things in inches instead of centimeter. Specially a problem when importing models from different sources and suddenly something comes in wrong size related to the other elements. In modern software this is not so much an issue as it is possible to adjust this later without loosing to much time, but I do remember a time when I really had to start all over to get it right.

In 3Ds Max one tool is my life saver and that is the Reset XForm. When I kind of loose track of all my models in a scene, what I have made, adjusted, imported and so on then this tool makes everything "solid" and sort of back to a "default" state.
