While you may not have a strong indigenous, hispanic, or LGBTQ population (to name just a few), honest attempts at celebrating the ways that cultures contribute to the campus, local community and national shared experience both educates and engages those in your community now, as well as clearly communicating that your campus community celebrates the entire range of students, faculty, and staff lived experience.

Diversity is NOT inclusion. A lot of people feel excluded because they don’t fit the typical or accepted higher ed template. Diversity without inclusion is colonization. Each person should be valued for their unique voice! We ought not seek to make them all the same at graduation, but to grow in perspective BECAUSE we listened and included everyone.
