What strategies can you use to build a global personal brand?

How did I become known globally? As I've written in my personal branding book "KNOWN," there are 4 steps everybody follows to begin the process: 1) Be clear on what you want to be known for 2) Occupy an unsaturated niche if possible 3) Consistently create & publish helpful content 4) Develop an actionable audience Now, what do you do to achieve global reach? 1) Publish in English. If you post in Norwegian, for example, you'll be contained to Norway. But English is the language of business, more or less, and it will provide the best chance for global reach 2) Find partners from different countries to co-create and share content like webinars and podcasts. 3) Network with people from other countries online, especially LinkedIn!

To build a global personal brand, first, figure out what makes you special and what you want to be known for. Then, create a professional website and use social media to share your knowledge and connect with people around the world. Be consistent with your message and interact with others in your field. Remember to be respectful of different cultures and languages if you're aiming for a global audience. Sharing your expertise through content, networking, and public speaking can help you become a recognized authority. Keep an eye on how well you're doing and be ready to adjust your strategy as needed. Niche is everything these days. ?? People want to know that they're getting the best of the best, and that means finding experts who specialize in exactly what they need. So, it's important to define your niche so that you can stand out from the crowd and attract your ideal clients. Here are a few tips for defining your niche: ??Think about your skills, experience, and passions. What are you good at? What do you love to do? What are you known for? ??Consider the needs of your target audience. What problems do they have? What solutions are they looking for? How can you help them? ??Be specific. The more specific your niche, the better. This will help you target your content and marketing efforts more effectively.

I really don’t think you need a niche when starting out. It’s great to have one but a lot of the times you never have things figured out. So just keep sharing, it could be your lifestyle, your journey to finding a new job. It has to be meaningful when you figure out what you want, determine and create your niche.

This is probably what we're best known for, so I'd love to add my thoughts here. While it's important to be authentic and focus on what you do best, it's CRITICAL to find a way to express yourself DIFFERENTLY with your personal brand. Remember that "98% of people meet your brand before they meet YOU" (-BrandFace), so give them something to remember. At first glance, your brand should communicate your uniqueness, so that when your ideal customer is exposed to your presence (online or otherwise), it compels them to want to learn more...and ultimately to feel that YOU and the solutions you provide were made just for them.

Your brand identity makes you stand out. Your brand identity is unique as it shares your mission, value, and message that makes your customer connect. Brand identity helps you make customers think about who and what you are. When you have a consistent brand identity, it makes customers remember you through logo, packaging, message, tone, or maybe language that helps to make customers connect instantly.

In your content journey, crafting a consistent and memorable brand identity is pivotal. It's an embodiment of your essence, values, and vision. This includes your name, logo, slogan, colors, fonts, images, tone, and voice. Ensure it's unique, relevant, and cohesive across all platforms. Be ready to adapt it to different contexts and cultures, potentially using diverse languages, symbols, or formats based on your target region. Adjust your tone and voice to align with your audience's expectations and norms.

Ensure that your expertise is not jurisdiction specific. Interact with those from across boundaries and jurisdictions. Encourage and support and create content that resonates widely. Stories often are key to doing this effectively. Connect with those with similar interests in other countries and regions.

Honestly, everything you do should portray your expertise and credibility. Before you put your brand 'out there', ask yourself these questions: 1. Does this demonstrate my expertise? 2. Is it speaking directly to my ideal customers? 3. Is there a 'next step' or call to action that they can pursue? If you keep your focus on those things with all of your marketing efforts, you'll have more clients than you can handle. But FIRST...make sure the brand is built to convey that, both in your brand messaging and your imagery.

How do people know that you are an expert in your field? You start creating thought leadership content that highlights your experiences, achievements, and ideas?? Having a personal brand across platforms helps position you as an expert and boosts your credibility.

It's like speaking a universal language of professionalism and relatability. Cultivate a genuine interest in global trends, engage in cross cultural conversations, and showcase your adaptability. One of the quickest ways to do so is BRAND ASSOCIATION. While connecting with other individuals globally, don't be shy to leverage the brand of others to showcase your own brand. Of course, be professional about it and learn how to do so respectfully while giving others value. When you are able to leverage on their brands, it very quickly opens up the network of those folks to your brand and in turn, scales your brand on the global stage very quickly.

Part of building a global brand means having a global footprint, which is established by the breadth and depth of your global network. In 2023, it's too easy to "connect" with someone from a different part of the world than you, but it's not enough to just have surface-level links. Take the time to truly learn about what it's like doing life in cities other than yours. What are the socialcultural norms? How do the business practices differ from what you're accustomed to? Adopting this approach will keep your brand from just "appearing" in different places globally and, instead, will give your brand MEANING wherever globally it appears.

In my experience, it's vital to build relationships and networks. Let me tell you why: I've created 300+ videos on YouTube and many WordPress blog websites, though only a handful maintained their presence. The only way to build a global personal brand is when you can retain relationships and networks. That's why I've been using LinkedIn. To stay connected with my audience via posts, comments, DM's, live streams, audio events etc.

Strong relationships don't stop at the borders of a country. I have connections all over the world. Building a strong relationship starts with a personal invite, a clear reason why you want to connect, and a benefit for both. When you can add value and you can receive value it will be easier to build a strong connection.

The world is constantly changing, and so is the digital landscape. ?? To stay updated and relevant, it's important to continuously learn and grow. Here are a few tips: ??Read industry blogs and articles. ??Listen to podcasts and webinars. ??Attend industry events and conferences. ??Follow thought leaders on social media. ??Take online courses and workshops.

I'd call this the ABL framework. Always Be Learning. I'm a big believer in learning philosophies that never change. These things that make us human. Learn those and be open to learning whatever you need to to keep up to date. The world and technology is changing fast so you have to stay flexible and adaptable.

Stay sharp on what's happening globally so that your content is infused with topics relevant outside of just a local vantage point. For example, for me - "hip-hop" conceptually is far beyond just being a music genre in the U.S. There is hip-hop in South Korea, India, Puerto Rico, Spain, etc. So when discussing hip-hop, knowing this point, I should strive to take a more global approach. The best way to start is one step at a time. Daily seek to learn more about what's globally relevant to your brand, and use that knowledge to sharpen your POV, enhance your content, and globalize your brand. It doesn't happen overnight, but consistency is key.

Stay curious. Ask questions. Listen. If you wanna build a personal brand that resonates worldwide, you gotta keep your skills fresh, with how fast things are changing globally, what's hot today might be old news tomorrow so make learning a daily habit - take online courses, attend international conferences, follow influencers across different countries immerse yourself in the new ideas shaping your industry. Be open to rethinking how you approach things, don't be afraid to revamp your personal brand to serve evolving needs. Roll with the changes, even if it shakes up your status quo.

I believe that a global personal brand requires a combination of a strong on- and offline presence. Take Jimmy Donaldson, aka Mr Beast, for example. He's widely recognized for his captivating videos. He established an exceptional team and network beyond YouTube that helped him build a global brand. At the heart of his journey is his authentic personality, driven by a hunger to make an impact. These are highly infectious to his direct surroundings. These qualities are partly why he receives invitations to podcasts like Joe Rogan's, or why the Buccaneers gave him a temporary contract for a video. So keep these strategies in mind: ? Authenticity ? Strong vision ? Dedicated team ? Infectious positivity ? Nurture relationships

A global personal brand is simply a digital personal brand. I have clients in Australia, Sweden, the UK, and other places. All from LinkedIn. How? Because they have the problem that I can help them solve!

I think we can do the following "ABC" to build a global personal brand: A - add value We have to add value to people /corporation by showing case our expertise to help them solve their problems. B - be localised It will be good if we can produce deliverables that are localised in the local country context as that would be relevant to people /corporation on that particular country C - Connection and collaboration We have to connect with people to build relationship and collaborate together where there are more opportunity to serve a bigger community globally with our expertise.

Continually demonstrating one's competence via a variety of platforms is essential to trustworthiness. It's crucial to modify material for a worldwide audience and keep a consistent brand across all channels. Your brand becomes stronger when you work with influencers and actively manage your internet reputation. A proactive attitude, perseverance, and flexibility are necessary to stay relevant in the ever-changing realm of personal branding.
