Few things promote learning more than teaching. I know that sounds like a contradiction but let me explain. When you have an opportunity to learn, focus with the expectation that you will need to teach someone else later. Take notes like you’re drafting a training document. It’s your job to take this knowledge back to the team.

As a business analyst, this process becomes instrumental in recognizing both your strengths and weaknesses, uncovering potential opportunities, and addressing any existing threats. Feedback serves as a conduit to align your individual goals and expectations with the broader objectives of your organization and the needs of your customers.

One non-conventional way of getting promoted is to do some work that everybody tries to avoid. Seriously, what one person's nightmare is is another person's bliss. What's hated by others, you should embrace and be the best at it. Let me explain. Everybody wants fancy, cool, and easy tasks, meaning demand is higher than supply. There is also a backlog of routine, unpleasant, boring, "too easy," and "not in my responsibility zone" issues waiting to be resolved. They rot in the backlog as no one wants to deal with them. Be their savior. Show that you are not shy about doing a complicated, demanding job. Choose carefully, of course, but if you find something that is highly needed but no one does it - do it. This is a great way to get noticed.

In my experience, I consider that my growth as a business analyst can be likened to that of a compass, with feedback being the needle. Positive feedback provides energy to my competency and self-assurance whereas constructive criticism helps me polish my shortcomings. It’s about going back and forth to keep on improving myself, which involves aligning my analyses with stakeholder expectations, adapting to dynamic environments, and building closer relationships. Feedback does not just help me see what I have done well but also shows what areas I need to focus on for career advancement hence remaining nimble and valuable in changing business world.

In fact our academic courses impart only general understanding (bookish knowledge ) of the technical aspects. Through carefully chosen training programs, the trainees are provided proper job knowledge , physical training , supervision and regular evaluation . Upon successful completion of the training programs, the trainees are confirmed in their position. In case of management trainees, each trainee is assigned to one department every six months and rotated through all Production, Quality , Administration , Sales, HR , Finance, Maintenance etc.

You might have heard this before but one of the best ways to solidify the knowledge you’ve gained is to teach someone else it. You’ll also seem more credible when you share your wisdom.

In my experience, 'Reflect and adapt' is step #1. It is good to seek feedback, but the key to getting usable feedback is to ask insightful questions to the right people. Insight is a product of reflection. Knowing who to approach for feedback and how to do it is also a product of reflection. Who in your network has been recently promoted? What can you learn from observing them? Who helped them to be more successful? What habits did they learn or unlearn? Reflect on these observations. With these answers to in mind, you can then go to the person who was promoted or those who helped that person, and ask them how *they* adapted. Success comes to those who *correctly* identify changes required for success and then boldly run the plan.

Identify areas for process improvement within your team or organization. Propose and implement changes that demonstrate your commitment to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

I mentioned it above, learning how to utilize AI to your advantage in your field will make you the more desirable choice as a candidate for a promotion or job. AI isn’t the only skill you should attain, there are so many things, maybe more suited to your occupation, that you could probably learn as well.

Seeking feedback, combined with self reflection, acknowledgement of strengths and weaknesses create a frame of reference. Milestones of growth and lessons learned create a unique path to goals.

Reflection and adaptation are very important as a business analyst in my view because it helps us to grow in our profession. Many times I have seen BAs being stubborn about changing their views on a solution or requirements. So it's important to consider all possibilities to a solution before finalising on the requirements list.
