I love this question. I was super shy when I was younger and didn’t network till an amazing leader called Tim pushed me out to events. It is not natural for everyone. For me I set my goal to make “one” good connection at any event. Get to know them slowly and with as much depth as you can. Then setup a follow up meeting if they are interested. If you go to just 10 events a year. You made 10 great contacts. Then just consistently do this year after year. It adds up!!!

I would suggest distinguishing between the cases of introverted individuals and those employees who are just afraid to take the first step. When I started my career in IT, I had a mentor. At first, I was doing assignments under her supervision. And I was in an isolated, safe space. I am very grateful that my mentor insisted at some point that I take on my first fully independent tasks. At first, it was nervous and stressful, but then I got used to it. And as a result, I became an independent team member, bringing independent value.
