What are some ways to evaluate potential outcomes before making a decision?

There is actually a lot of frameworks for proper decision making, first in my personal opinion, consider your biases as these have the biggest impact on making bad decisions, where do you stand personally on each decision. Then stick to frameworks that will help you question your choices, encourage your team to make contradictions to what you choose, I strongly believe in asking "and then what", "but what if" - assess risks, assess the importance and urgency of that, just some thought provoking considerations to begin with.

In my experience, in building a business model around a product, we think about the possible scenarios, including the resources involved, market competition, how potential consumers will perceive our product or brand, how many can we sell to breakeven, etc. However, we consider the worst-case scenario before concluding on a final decision.

I agree. Pugh Matrix is another tool to arrive at the best decision among multiple options. One can have weightage assigned to each evaluating criteria. Ex. In case of functional product, the functionality related parameter should have more weightage than say look related parameter. The idea which scores highest should be taken forward.

Then research, research, research. Determine your risks, perform analyses that are valuable to your decision in question. This will provide you insight on your downfalls. Determine your biases & use your network(s) for support and feedback. This can help you benchmark your potential outcome with industry "gold standards." Review and reflect often, are the consequences you are visualizing aligning with your goals? In medicine, we often use a multimodal approach rather than just using one method, as it can lead to a more comprehensive evaluation.

A creative approach that I have found useful and helpful is evaluating the possible outcome/challenges from opposite perspective - for example: how does your manufacturer/supplier of material relate to this possible challenge and how they might react? Same for your supply chain elements, production line and so on. It is a constant work-in-progress, but as you perform it frequently, you discover additional solution for possible challenges and perform a more reasoned decision-making.

In case of a firm, the element will be different teams or in case of family, the element will be relationship. Finally, list down all positive & negative impacts of your decision to draw a conclusion on the size of decision's outcome.

Analysis Paralysis is a real thing, it's not uncommon to think, think, think and realize that you've been stagnating and standing still. While I do agree that it's important to evaluate your outcomes, I think it's far more effective to take action and adjust based on live feedback. Believe in yourself and trust your instincts!
