The key with effective thought leadership is to make the effort to understand and acknowledge a wide range of perspectives. Taking the time to read a variety of viewpoints on particular topics is where you will develop a much deeper understanding of the issues at hand. Without these perspectives, you can only appreciate things from your own or a limited point of view. Effective thought leadership demonstrates an understanding of many views and then draws insight from this deeper knowledge. This is how new insights and opportunities are revealed.

To develop thought leadership, I believe it's as important to ask questions, listen and learn, as it is to share knowledge. By having curiosity and sparking dialogue, it allows you to understand and incorporate new, diverse perspectives into your content and what you share. Thought leadership is as much about asking questions as it is about sharing your personal expertise. It's sometimes when the best content rises to the surface!

There's a phrase that says "be friend with your enemy" because sometimes the best idea comes from the most opposing view. Humans naturally want to be surrounded by people who are similar to us and that hinders us from getting to know different groups of people who think, act and feel differently. Reminding ourselves to be more open and not to reject the idea of diversity of thought would be a good first step.
