The way I approach conflict is to be objective. Being objective leaves emotion out of it, and forces everyone involved to look at either a solution or root cause process.

Servant leaders help others to envision a positive and realistic outcome that can satisfy their needs and goals. By focusing on the future, servant leaders shift the conversation from a win-lose or a compromise scenario to a win-win or a collaboration scenario, where both parties can benefit from the resolution.

To handle conflict with a servant leadership posture, you must be focused on solving the issue without just placing blame. As a leader you must be a level-3 listener. This means listening to understand. Get all issues on the table and focus on a results oriented approach that enables all parties to be heard.

Conflicts are part of any relationship. What matters is how we deal with them. My studies have resulted in a VALUE framework for building trust and respect between people V is for vision. When two parties have a shared vision, the conflicts can be resolved quicker A is for appreciation . When we have a culture of “catching people do the right things” trust and respect improves L is for love. When we love plotter people, we will communicate with them more often. We will seek and give feedback more frequently. This again enhances trust and respect. U is for uplifting. This act requires one to get down to their level, understand what they are feeling (empathy) and then lift them up. E is for Empowerment. When empower others they trust you.
