1. In my experience laying out a high level architecture followed by a low level design of each components helps. 2. From the high level architecture eliminate any heavy shifting like file based mechanisms and implement event based solutions thereby reducing the large volume in addition to the tightly coupled systems 3. Support teams in general feel tightly coupled systems as complex ones - trying to decouple or reduce the dependency either by eliminating or reducing the data processed with event based mechanism should be considered. 4. Implement the most dependent system first followed by the rest.

Personally, I prefer something hybrid. With waterfall, it is easier to plan the final product. However, with support of agile, it is easier to adapt, adjust the project.

Have a checklist for all activities 1. Product documentation / guide updation 2. Product handover / training to ops, L2 support 3. Updation of run-books, monitoring-dashboards, logs 4. Training of any on-the-floor folks (warehouse workforce, shop-floor folks, etc) and their handbooks 5. Anticipate production issues - more complex the release - more issues in production due to the above 4 points, keep aside bandwidth 6. a clear understanding who has the authority to rollback a release and consult them as needed. 7. Release sequencing, flag-turn-on/off sequencing 8. Release rollout + AB testing + UAT sign-offs 9. definitely have a Go / No-Go meeting before releasing 10. Continuously find better ways of reporting 11. check for new risks

Deploying complex software solutions can often overlook the involvement of stakeholders beyond the project phase, specifically those that will operate the platform. Perhaps there are new skills required, training for Helpdesk or L1 or L2 support. Cultural change also plays a big role in uptake, as does ensuring shadow systems are dealt with. Understanding why the project was undertaken at the enterprise level will help bed in the new system. The delivery is often the easy part. The hurdles come in the operations, support and business uptake to the extent warranted to realize the benefit(s) stated.
