If possible, start your virtual meetings on time. It’s tempting to wait until the entire team is logged on, but it can be disrespectful to those who made the effort to be punctual. And end on time as well since many virtual meetings are back to back.

I would be very careful with 'ice-breakers', if used they must take into consideration the potentially invisible diversity in the team. A bit of chat on a neutral subject while everyone is joining the call helps to make it feel less formal. Plus the 'chair' welcoming each joiner by name. One nice idea, from one smallish (up to 10 of us) team I'm in, is to ask everyone how they are showing up (as in happy, sad, excited, etc) and what they are looking forward to (can be work or non-work related). Helps everyone get an understanding of how attendees might engage in the meeting.

There are so many variables that can have affect a trustful relationship, both in a group and individual setting. I find being tolerant of ones idiosyncrasies tends to work well and try to instil this in every meeting. Of course, there are limits as respect and trust is a 2-way street.

With my team I am organizing a bi-weekly meetings called Wellness Wednesday. On these meetings we do all sorts of quizzes, share pictures, talk about our favourite things and we get to know each other through these meetings that are not about work but about having fun, coming together and enjoying the team spirit.
