One of the things I have always liked about franchising is that people have choices. If someone decides to open a franchise, first of all they have to be awarded a franchise. They can't just walk in with a check and say they want to buy it. It is a mutual due diligence process that you do first. So unlike someone who decided to open Joe's Coffee Shop, you get to know exactly what you need to do each day to be successful. You don't have to wonder who your customers are or how you will find them. You don't have to "figure out how to set everything up" it is already a proven system. Lastly, if you get into the business and you discover that it just isn't for you, the franchisor has a vested interest in helping you sell the business.

I have been on both sides of a franchise, to me it’s about value. Not always a monetary issue, but can be the feeling of being part of something, the feeling of support, the feeling of partnership. Exiting is something everyone talks about and I agree to these reasons but I also feel that that there are other reasons of dissatisfaction otherwise why would someone exit after putting behind money, time and other resources.
