ISO 9000 is a series of international standards that define the requirements and guidelines for a quality management system. A quality management system is a set of policies, procedures, processes, and resources that enable an organization to manage and control its quality aspects. ISO 9000 helps an organization to establish, document, implement, maintain, and improve its quality management system and to ensure its conformity with customer and regulatory requirements. ISO 9000 also provides a common language and framework for quality management across different industries and regions.

It has been a Money Scheme for 20 years. The word Quality isn't even in the document. NO requirement for any " Quality Function " at all. Audit yourself on what you say you do? They spec says very little about what you have to do. For a while, the large DOD companies didn't even accept it. I guess it fits the modern work force perfectly. Please excuse me. I'm old and worked to 45208 & 9858. Those were fun!
Six Sigma is a methodology and a philosophy that aims to reduce variation and defects in processes and products and to enhance customer satisfaction and profitability. Six Sigma is based on the application of statistical tools and techniques to measure, analyze, improve, and control the quality of processes and products. Six Sigma uses a five-step approach called DMAIC, which stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. Six Sigma also relies on the involvement and training of employees at different levels and roles, such as Green Belts, Black Belts, and Master Black Belts.
-
To use Six Sigma effectively you first need to take time to agree on a precise Project Definition, a casual objective will jeopardize the chance of a successful outcome. The team needs to a positive aspect and commitment, the team will require untainted staff who can take objective and meaningful measures. Data collection e.g the use of KPI's, Run Charts etc. identify resolve rogue process practices and defective plant. Be aware your team will ruffle feathers. The project will achieve results quicker if you use a proprietary Statistics pack, data collected on Excel will directly load into and quickly provide a more detailed broader scope for identifying trends, distributions, design of experiment etc (Mini Tab being one example)
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management approach that focuses on continuous improvement of the quality of products, services, processes, and culture of an organization. TQM is based on the principles of customer focus, employee empowerment, leadership commitment, teamwork, process management, and data-driven decision making. TQM aims to achieve customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and organizational excellence by involving everyone in the organization in the pursuit of quality.
-
My view of TQM is that it is less about the management of Quality, and more about the quality of Management. Demming identified that 90% - 95% of failures where due to the system, and the system is the bailiwick of management.
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a strategic management tool that helps an organization to translate its vision and mission into measurable objectives and indicators. BSC uses four perspectives to evaluate the performance of an organization: financial, customer, internal process, and learning and growth. BSC helps an organization to align its activities and resources with its strategy, to communicate its goals and expectations to its stakeholders, to monitor and evaluate its progress and results, and to identify and implement improvements.
EFQM Excellence Model is a framework that helps an organization to assess and improve its performance and achieve excellence. EFQM Excellence Model is based on nine criteria that cover the key aspects of an organization: leadership, strategy, people, partnerships and resources, processes, products and services, customer results, people results, society results, and key results. EFQM Excellence Model helps an organization to understand its strengths and areas for improvement, to benchmark itself against other organizations, to learn from best practices , and to recognize and celebrate its achievements.
-
The problem that I had with excellence models is that the assessment tends towards an evaluation of an organisation's promises to do "stuff" rather than the outcomes of doing that "stuff"
-
I recommend the one that the management team gets behind and supports. That is the one that will succeed --- regardless of the methodology.

Lean manufacturing is one element that I think is beneficial in quality management. Lean manufacturing seeks to reduce waste and increase productivity while maintaining high standards of quality. Non-value-adding activities are eliminated using this methodical approach. The skill of transferring semi-finished goods while reducing movement throughout production processes is one of the main activities that can be reviewed to address quality issues.
