Nowadays, data analysis is crucial. However, it is not enough. To demonstrate the economic impact of healthcare policies, it is necessary to conduct thorough cost-benefit analyses. This involves quantifying both the short-term and long-term financial implications, considering treatment costs, potential savings, and overall healthcare system efficiency.

Big data holds immense potential for healthcare, however there are several challenges we often encounter like data quality, processing power, etc. This is why it’s important to complement big data insights with theory and qualitative research to paint the bigger picture. If we were to rely solely on big data analytics in healthcare I’m sure we’d neglect subpopulations or problems where there is a lack of data or data quality. Fortunately, we can use quantitative methods to improve data quality and even proxy social determinants of health until we have more robust and appropriate means of collecting data.

Real-world data can provide comprehensive insights into patient outcomes, treatment patterns, and economic implications of healthcare policies, aiding in more informed decision-making.

Reflecting on study designs, data needed to answer the question at stake, and appropriate methods for data collection, processing, and analysis can support a mixed-methodology approach. For example, researchers and evaluators may want to consider what data is accessible and how they can effectively use it to tell a story relevant to the question. I suggest extending on frameworks (ex. CFIR) and finding ways to automate or effectively process and analyze data such as through web analytics, dashboards, programming, and analytics softwares.

This simulation is called "Health Economic Evaluation." It aims to create advanced health economic models to simulate the possible outcomes of various policy scenarios. These models can project the costs, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness of different policies. This helps policymakers make informed decisions based on a comprehensive understanding of the consequences of their choices.

Sensitivity analysis is a crucial aspect to simulation modelling, although it can often be difficult to retrieve the data. This allows the researcher test the level of influence their assumptions have on the model’s outcomes. Nonetheless, health economics is a rather underrepresented field despite a pressing need to inform policy and funding founded on sound economic evidence. This is particularly relevant to resource scarce areas, especially low- and middle- income countries, to prioritize cost-effective interventions.

By integrating patient-reported outcomes into quantitative research methodologies, policymakers can gain a better understanding of the real impact of policies on individuals' lives. This approach has the potential to lead to more patient-centered and effective healthcare policies
