Personalization can be achieved by sending a welcome package with personalized items like a handwritten note or a branded mug, assigning a mentor or buddy for guidance and feedback, creating a customized learning plan that covers essential skills and knowledge for their role, and soliciting feedback from the new hire throughout the onboarding process and adjusting it accordingly.

The onboarding is an excellent opportunity to show the incumbent that the company cares for them and has plans to invest in them. A well organised induction program can help make the socialization process effective. Every induction program should include common as well as personalised elements. In my organization, we achieve this by subjecting our new joiners to a week long common induction followed by a personalised departmental or team program designed by their team leads.

Implementing a buddy system has been particularly effective in helping newcomers feel supported and connected right from the start. I've also seen the benefits of incorporating gamification into our onboarding process, making it not only informative but also engaging. Additionally, developing mentorship programs has allowed us to foster meaningful connections between seasoned employees and newcomers, facilitating knowledge transfer and integration into our company culture. Feedback loops and social integration activities, have significantly enhanced our onboarding process and contributed to higher retention rates within our organization.

The onboarding process is more important to show the company culture and environment for welcome of new joiner during the first day in organization. So we need to have a proper onboarding process and procedure guideline to be implementation such as induction program, welcome gift and note and office tour etc. When we can engage the new joiner about their feeling and emotional well, they can adopt and perform as much as possible with new organization. Last we can do the survey feedback from new joiner for next improvement.

Gamify the onboarding process is much more fun and engagement faster for new joiner. Somehow, we can design the online questionnaire related to policy or procedure as much as possible to understand and answering. Also we can design as short quick for them to access and answer to get the point and earn from step to step until they can complete the course and pass the onboarding score. It is the way that we can engage them into our organization culture faster.

3 Incorporate social learning into the onboarding process

A third strategy to improve the onboarding process and retention rates is to incorporate social learning into it. Social learning encourages collaboration, communication, and trust among new employees and existing team members, as well as enhancing their knowledge sharing and problem-solving skills. To do this, you can organize a welcome event or team-building activity to introduce the new hire to their colleagues and managers. Additionally, you can create a community or network for new hires and existing employees to share their experiences, insights, and best practices. Furthermore, you should encourage the new hire to participate in informal learning opportunities such as webinars, podcasts, blogs, or forums that are relevant to their role and industry. Lastly, provide access to mentors or experts who can offer advice, support, and feedback on their onboarding and performance goals.

In my opinion, it is an excellence way to be include the incorporate social learning into the onboarding process. First we can input for soft skills related to management, communication and collaboration by create a group activities to engage and guide them into our target. Next we can input for mental health like mindfulness or meditation that can help them to adopt with us quickly. So it is what we can input and make effective onboarding process.
