It's easy to fall into the trap of assuming that our work is flawless, but this mindset can lead to costly setbacks. Testing is key. We must systematically and rigorously test every component of our neural network, from the logic and syntax to the data and model. By doing so, we can identify any potential errors or inconsistencies that may arise. This level of thoroughness ensures that we are building a reliable and accurate system. When errors do occur, it's crucial to be able to pinpoint their source. Is it a flaw in the logic of our code? Is there a syntax error that needs fixing? Or is the issue rooted in the data or model itself? By isolating the source of errors, we can address them more effectively and prevent them from recurring.

I actually trace the errors back to the inputs that generated them, and examine from there the inputs and possibly how or why the error was the result.

Most of the research being done (especially in academia) starts with testing it out in jupyter notebooks, which I do think is a good idea, but when your experiments start to increase, it's quite hard to keep track of everything, and what worked and what didn't. I would recommend using something like Weights & Biases along with scripts for testing, to log the results and configurations every time. It's quite straight-forward to use and you can easily return back to a configuration that worked for you. It's important to run tests and log them too, this would let you know which change broke which test and you can debug more easily
