Design Professionals gain competence / trust with a program with sustained usage. They often don’t know the cost of procuring separate programs providing the same functionality. A way to ‘sell’ the idea of a single (or less) program is: 1. Reduced training costs, 2. Improved and faster checking cycles, 3. Increased collaboration across the enterprise, 4. Standardized input scripts, 5. Improved teamwork. 6. Reduced budget overruns. I once had an occasion to standardize structural design programs, and we employed the above in that solution. There was initial reluctance, but after a short time, the team saw improvements in all the above targets. They ended up owning the full transition and enforced compliance within their group.
