In navigating power dynamics, it is crucial to distinguish between equality and equity. Despite being at the same level or receiving equal salaries, social, cultural, or systemic factors still create disparities. Fostering equity involves acknowledging and dismantling barriers that hinder specific individuals or communities. Open dialogue, cultural sensitivity training, and creating inclusive spaces can help dismantle biases. But it is only when we actively address power imbalances that we pave the way for a more equitable peer culture that acknowledges and mitgates the unique obstacles individuals may face based on their cultural or social backgrounds.
