What are some effective ways to promote risk-taking in your organization?

Create a Safe Environment: Foster a non-punitive culture where employees feel safe expressing new ideas. Emphasize learning from failures rather than blaming individuals. Encourage teams to experiment and iterate on ideas. Training and Development: Provide training on risk management and decision-making. Equip employees with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate uncertainties. Support continuous learning and development.

It's all depending on the company culture and the embedded behaviors, company without a risk appetite will not promote the theme of receiving new ideas from its workforce. We can always encourage experimentation within the small team, but employees will start to think why? they should use a continues improvement path and work as a team to do things better and smarter. If there is a good team led by someone who is a good facilitator as a continues improvement specialist, they will not only do good things for their team but they after that they will promote this, and it will be extended to another teams.

Try new things. Encourage your team to experiment with new ideas and methods. Give them time and resources to try different approaches. Celebrate their efforts, whether they succeed or not.

Moving into a new role I constantly challenged myself to go outside of the "norm". I have learnt new skills & developed a network I never new existed.

No risk no gain. There has to be a calculated risk to get success. Sometimes risk can land you in trouble as well. Do not worry about failures. We learn a lot from failures as well.

well; we can not live and operate in "risk- free" environment. hence; taking risk is part of life. however; we need to train our team to have the skills of dynamic risk assessment to know when to act and when not to act if it is not safe to do so due to hight level of potential risk.
