What are some effective ways to manage your time when exploring a new hobby?

When I started my new hobby of yoga/handstanding, I thought I would kill it within 6 months. I was wrong - but this motivation helped me to get started. Set realistic goals, and see how much time you can spend every day on your new hobby. We all have to start somewhere, and a little bit every day adds up to accomplishing your goal in the long run.

BUT - they 'are' new and therefore after the initial 'buzz' wears off, your mind will want to spend less time on the hobby to return things back to your current programming. That's why we often start a new hobby with great enthusiasm - read, buy kit, talk about a lot, and then the novelty wears off, often with weeks. It takes just 30 days of daily re-programming to install a new habit into our subconscious 'operating system'. That's daily - if you miss just one day, then it's a further 30 consecutive days to program. After that time, the mind accepts the new paradigm. So allocate a short time period, every day, and enjoy your new hobby daily for 30 days, after which time it becomes a fun habit.

To relax and calm yourself allow yourself to engage in a new hobby, this can be anything including "writing","dancing","yoga" apart from watching series in Netflix . Plan a hobby way ahead and schedule it accordingly . You can opt to pull in your favourite people to do this , if it is like going to a zumba classes, dance classes or a kickboxing Classes.This has to be new, consistent and a new happier self should manifest. Treat your hobby time sincerely like a work time and do it with full heart and mind, make sure to engage your interests in this hobby time, as this is going to give a long time impact in your personality and wellbeing.

By planning ahead, you avoid coming up with excuses. Schedule time in your agenda to actively work on your new hobby, and see which time of the day works best for you. For me personally, this is the morning, as I feel like I accomplished something before starting my work day, and I have no excuses later of being tired.

In truth, I'm usually setting up my space to meditate when the alarm goes off - it's become a habit I really look forward to! So allocate a time, stick to it & enjoy!

After going to your special place, at your special time, turn off notifications on your gadgets (do not disturb), and make sure you'll be undisturbed and not distracted for this time. All that remains now is to set a timer - could be an hour glass, an old school timer (if you want to avoid picking up your phone) but set the time, and then lose yourself in your hobby. Be as strict at the end - leaving this magical place until same time tomorrow.

It takes about 21 days to create a habit, but after 6 months of consistent training, I also allowed myself to be flexible and adaptable by trying new classes, missing a training day when travelling or adjusting my training if my body was tired.

While you might have a main end goal, it is important to celebrate achievements on the way. For example, if you are learning a new language, you might celebrate having your first full conversation in that language by treating yourself to a coffee and cake. Make your hobby fun, so you will stick to it long term!
