What are some effective ways to incentivize innovation in your start-up?

Your vision, is defining the proposed outcome of the business, your hopes, your dreams or wishes, your successes, your goals, your values, your ethics, your morals, in fact everything about you as an individual and you as a business. The difficulty with all visions is that they are normally you centric - getting everybody on board with in the business to have the same vision, the same goal centred ideas that you do can be very difficult, but making sure that everybody understands what’s expected of them, should help to maintain your vision throughout. It’s always fantastic when the staff you start with stay throughout your journey & therefore have grown with your vision. This is never easy for newcomers, it will take a while to fit in.

To have an exciting initiative ideas driven organisation you must have something to feed that, something that will excite & keep those creative minds of your employees fed. Be of the mindset that no idea is a bad idea, then you open up the opportunities for people to be as resourceful, with their stimulated suggestions. Employees will come with many ideas that are completely unworkable but one of those ideas just might be the biggest profit making Idea of the year. Keep their creative juices flowing, make the environment fun, promote innovation, be super excited along with the staff, keep ideas based thinking, brimming to the surface, without making people feel they are not useful, cared for listened to, valued, or even just plain daft.

Collaboration can be extremely exciting innovative and also give most team members external partners / stakeholders, a valuable input into how the two separate organisations can work together succinctly. By bringing new and exciting & different perspectives skills & experiences. furthermore, companies can help both businesses by creating new opportunities. A new alignment between the two different organisations with different products services, skills, different expectations, and different desired outcomes. When you encourage collaboration, you encourage an exchange of ideas, you exchange the opportunity to delve into new & exciting intellect, different mindsets, different abilities and more open-minded, suggestion accepting environment.

Be realistic. The call for more innovation time and space is often heard. But facilitating this need by means of incentives is not a guarantee that team members will actually seize the opportunities offered. I've coached multiple teams that were given a day in the week - and ample budget and tools - for innovative freewheeling and DID NOT take the chance. Whereas the employees with the right innovative mindset already innovated, regardless the incentives. Innovation is a mindset, a curiosity. You either have it or you don't. The best starting point for an innovative culture is the hiring process.
