We live in a society characterized by a huge data flow; thus a technique is preparing yourself to your 1:1 with reports full of insights and data about your personal and team performance. The ability to gather data and to find explanations and propose some next steps or actionable plan shows that: a) you take initiative b) you know how to use digital tools c) you have a vision d) your reasoning is based on objective elements

Opportunity is given or taken to person who takes initiative and ready to accept new challenges. Even leaders prefer the person who is capable and ready to accept new challenges

In today's dynamic teams, the skill most required yet mostly missing is that of emotional intelligence. It has often been seen that any professional with high emotional intelligence by default seems to be a person with high integrity. However, the vice versa is not always true. But still, possessing emotional intelligence remains one of the most desirable traits in professional setups.

This is something I personally relate to a lot. Learning is lifelong. And here's why it helps the best - you're constantly rethinking perspectives, discarding obsolete ideas and making space for newer and more relevant ideas. Moreover, learning is a muscle-memory. It makes you adaptable and curious in a very instinctive manner, and inherently develop the practice of sharing what you learn.

This is a great way to show continuous development traits to your boss. Besides the most apparent benefit of visibility to one's boss, it also keeps one agile in their career and maintains 'employability' throughout.

I absolutely agree with this statement, and may take it a little farther: owning your mistakes are paramount to leadership. If you can show me a leader who has not made a mistake that lead to a failure, I can show you someone is may not be able to lead in the tough times. If you show me a leader who has made a mistake and covered it up, I can show you a person with a flaw in their transparency. When you show your team that you are prepared to give them honesty in your own failings, it builds trust. Trust is key in leading. When you can show your team that you can make a mistake, learn from it, and change yourself for correction, that is inspiring.

Being responsible is having the ability to know the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that you have to overcome with your team and having established an action plan, agreeing on dates for the fulfillment of the actions and periodically monitoring them. You must effectively motivate and support the team, commit and set clear and achievable objectives, with some effort, be focused on maximizing results, measuring the results of your actions and taking on challenges to drive the competitive and continuous progress of the company. You have to achieve the objectives and celebrate them with the team members.

Responsibility: Your Leadership Badge. Take responsibility for your actions, decisions, and mistakes. Be transparent, admit your mistakes, and learn from them. Communicate your progress, celebrate your successes, set high standards for yourself, deliver results, take responsibility, and build trust. Showing leadership potential to your boss may be difficult because they are not always around you. In addition, a good boss would be able to tell the difference between authentic leadership behavior and forced leadership behavior. Being a good teammate who positively influences others and outcomes helps build leadership traits and a reputation which will go further than forcing something with your boss. When joining my last employer (nearly 20 yrs ago), I was fortunate to have a 1-on-1 with the President and asked him what success looks like here — his response “Doing your job well, being available to help others and being trusted by your peers. Eventually, it will be your peers that will help you be successful and get promoted.”

Some other things to consider: Build your internal network; become acquainted with management & other coworkers at all levels and job titles. Volunteer for 'extracurricular' tasks when presented with an opportunity. First be sure you have the bandwidth to do a good job at it, however. Keep the company and customer's best interests at heart. Be open about your accomplishments, but not boastful. Be a team player, but don't shrink from leading a team.
