What are some effective ways to communicate with clients who have a different vision for the project?

In my experience, I arrange the following workshops with the client about the project including the business units (BU) managing the project/initiative: - brainstorming sessions - need assessment - risk and gap analysis - feedback sessions and loops This helps me understand their business objectives as each BU have their own perspective and KPIs. As a result, I’ll have the ability to build a business case that fits their needs and propose the solution to meet their expectations.

When different visions occur when working with a client, I try to understand the core points that my client wants, I will understand where their inspiration stems from and why it was a motivation for them so that I can identify what they want. Once I identify their idea, I will infuse those inspirations with my vision meticulously so a new form of vision is developed. There is always a way to find common ground to infuse visions with clients unless the client has a rigid attitude. I believe visions are developed from previous visions so by asking the clients where their inspiration comes from, It is simple to understand the roots of their vision. As an expert, have a dynamic and elastic vision so you can wrap around the client's vision.

In my experience, When your client's got a different vision, it's all about a friendly chat. First, really listen to what they're saying, ask questions to get the nitty-gritty details, and show that you get where they're coming from. While it is obvious that if you work for a client, you are bound to face criticism and corrections, we as designers must learn to overcome such situations in a very polite way. Start by making them understand why their idea does not fit according to the brand values or the motto by which the company is running.
