What are some effective NLP techniques for improving speech recognition accuracy?

Data augmentation can be used on both audio signals and text transcriptions. In audio signals, background noise can be added or we can also change pitch in sound. In this way, data augmentation can increase variety and diversity in the audio signal. For example, we can add factory machine noise or traffic noise in audio signal, we can generate new audio samples. Text augmentation can be used to enhance speech transcriptions. In Text augmentation, we can replace words with synonyms or similar sounding words. We can also add or delete words, or change sentence or word order. It would helps in improving natural language understanding(NLG) component of speech recognition.

Although data augmentation is important technique, the model might not generalize well to unseen scenarios if the augmented data does not accurately represent the diverse conditions experienced during the actual usage

A very new approach in machine learning integrates some generative probabilistic models with neural networks. The mean field has been extensively studied. In my latest journal on pattern recognition, I combined the effectiveness of generalized Dirichlet with the ability of neural networks to learn complex distributions on text and image datasets. I also explore the rejection sampler to ensure that the latent representations are well sampled. The results were promising and encouraging. I am planning to explore this idea in the speech recognition domain. Learning the distribution of the speech MFCC rather than the MFCC will be interesting to see how it can improve the model's accuracy.

Speech Recognition can generate misspelled words or words which have similar sounds in final transcription text. As sentence consists of sequence of tokens, Language Models compute the sentence probability by multiplying probability of individual tokens. So language models can predict probability of a given sentence. It can also predict probability of mis-spelled words or words with similar sound. So language models can replace the mis-spelled words with correct word occurrence. In this way, language models can improve accuracy of speech recognition. Language Models can be directly integrated with deep learning models.
