I often find a great way to explain a complex problem is through analogies of similarity. One of my preferred methods takes it origins from web development called "rubber duck debugging" although I've also known it as "Explain it like I'm 5". In this analogy the person with the problem tries to explain the issue as simply as possible. Some developers even literally have a rubber duck on their desk for this purpose. You explain as simply as you can so as you reduce the complexity of the problem. This aims to find a lowest common denominator, or common thread from which we seek a solution.
Brainstorming is a technique that involves generating as many ideas as possible, without judging or filtering them, in a group setting. Brainstorming can help you tap into the collective wisdom and creativity of others, and discover new possibilities and perspectives. To make brainstorming effective, you need to set a clear goal, encourage participation, build on each other's ideas, and record everything.
A mind map is a visual tool that helps you organize your thoughts, explore connections, and generate new ideas. To create a mind map, you start with a central topic or problem, and then branch out to related subtopics, keywords, images, or symbols. You can use colors, shapes, and icons to make your mind map more appealing and memorable. A mind map can help you see the big picture, identify gaps, and find creative solutions.
Sometimes, the way you frame a problem can limit your creativity and prevent you from finding innovative solutions. One way to overcome this barrier is to reverse your assumptions and challenge the status quo. For example, if you assume that a problem is impossible, expensive, or boring, try to imagine the opposite: what if it was possible, cheap, or fun? How would you solve it then? Reversing your assumptions can help you break free from mental blocks and discover new opportunities.
Assumption reverse is a good way to break a challenge down. Expensive things can be cheaper by removing features, or reducing scope. This forces the brain into a more creative stance, while also removing any limiting beliefs on the specific challenge. EG If you believe something is expensive, but then consider it cheap, you'll remove your money blocks from the equation. Difficult things can become easy to remove beliefs about not being able to do it. I do not intend these to hold as beliefs. But a lot of beliefs are relative. To me, $31 isn't necessarily a lot of money, but to someone who is on $1 a day wages, it's a month's work. Suspend your beliefs and disbeliefs, and approaching from an opposite angle could easily show you a solution.
Playing games can be a great way to stimulate your creativity and have fun at the same time. Games can help you develop your logic, strategy, intuition, and imagination, as well as your collaboration and communication skills. You can choose games that are related to your problem, or games that are completely different, and see what lessons you can learn from them. You can also create your own games, or modify existing ones, to suit your needs and preferences.
