- I agree because prior to getting a job at Google, I had only been exposed to small businesses or corporations that did not place any value in celebrating success. Because of that, I felt like I always had to overdeliver to maybe be recognized, but in the end, I burned myself out job after job. When I suggested to our managers that giving feedback would be nice, they basically told me that I am expecting too much from a workplace. For me, that was the moment in my career when I realized how even the good or bigger companies can easily lose the trust and enthusiasm of the their employees.

- I think this is good and bad at the same time. Some jobs have set KPIs so forcing these teams to go above and beyond when the backlog is not overdue or huge, puts people on the edge and ping them against each other. Competitions on workplace performance should only be utilized if the backlog is enormous and when the team/company is headed to disaster. Otherwise we should say thanks to everyone for their effort and also point out the high achievers - while also avoiding placing them on a scoreboard or a special list.

I feel grateful for Google for giving me a job and all the ways they approach this topic. I believe that resource management in general is a task that should never ever be skipped when it comes to workplace. Any file that can help teammates navigate their day to day jobs, make it simpler to understand tasks/policies/best practices should be shared right on the day of onboarding. There is no way to overdo resource management, but there sure is a way to not do enough and cause more communication problems down the line for both the worker and the employer too.

I think this is good, but only if done infrequently. Valuable feedback comes at the time when problems arise. I believe that what we are trying to say here is that feedback rituals might refer to retrospectives - which are good for understanding team/project performance. If we want real, unfiltered, unbiased feedback from our teammates, we need to allow them to feel psychologically safe at the company and meet their ideas with open arms and consideration.
