In my experience, few best practices got forgotten when considering cloud-native, these include: backward compatibility- ensuring decoupling of database changes from code changes, Rollback strategy- off-the-shelf cloud backup and rollback may not suffice and needs uplifting & post-deployment monitoring- business need to define their key KPI metric on top of cloud monitoring especially for hybrid-cloud deployments.

As part of an audit, it’s important to have a complete view of all assets but identifying owners for them is of equal importance as well. It’s only then that you can start to formulate a baseline security posture, that should not only be adhered to but the aim should be to surpass this by trying to predict trends in technology and cybersecurity.

I'd add, from experience, that security assessments are critical in understanding security gaps. Followed by risk assessment exercise to develop mitigations and start creating security design patterns to augments above design patterns and principles.
