I think the three main mistakes people make when starting out networking (myself included) tend to fall into these main issues; 1. overselling - a massive turn-off. 2. not playing the long game (giving up after a couple of meetings because "it's not worked".) 3. trying to be everything to everyone. 4. not preparing (and identifying prospects where there is a mutually beneficial relationship opportunity). Networking is a great opportunity for mid/long-term relationship building. Too many networkers either go for the sake of networking, or just go to sell.
